GET YOUR PRESCRIPTION

If you plan to order prescription glasses from Ozeal Glasses, a copy of your prescription is indispensable. It should be both valid (no older than 2 years) and correct (your optician prescribed it right).

If you need a new prescription or never had one before, just go to your nearby optician for an eye test and ask for a copy of prescription. Your optician is obliged to give you one.

Of course, under this circumstance, you can order your glasses first at Ozeal Glasses and send your prescription to us later. Therefore, we can arrange your order in advance.

UNDERSTAND YOUR PRESCRIPTION

In the first place, you may need to know about what the usually applied terms and abbreviations on your prescription stand for so as to get a better understanding about your eye condition.

Terms & Abbreviations

Sphere (SPH): prescribed to correct your nearsightedness (with a minus sign '-' ahead) and farsightedness (with a plus sign '+' ahead).

Cylinder (CYL): prescribed for astigmatism. Usually proceeded by a minus sign for nearsighted astigmatism and a plus sign for farsighted astigmatism.

Axis (AXI): only present if there is a value for CYL, ranging from 0 to 180, revealing the orientation of the astigmatism.

Near Addition (ADD): additional correction required for reading. The value will always be the same for both eyes and may only appear once on your handwritten prescription.

Intermediate Addition (INT Add): additional correction for intermediate distance. It is required if you order computer glasses from us.

Symbols & Marks

Minus Sign "-": usually written above or ahead numbers. If it is seen in the column of Sphere (SPH), it means you are nearsighted and if Cylinder (CYL), it means you are nearsighted -astigmatic.

Plus Sign "+": usually written above or ahead numbers. If it is seen in the column of Sphere (SPH), it means you are farsighted and if Cylinder (CYL), it means you are farsighted-astigmatic.

DS: written in the column of Cylinder. It means you are not astigmatic and you just need to leave the CYL column blank while entering your prescription.

Sideways "8": written in the column of Sphere. It means you are neither nearsighted nor farsighted and you just need to choose “0.00, Plano, Balance or ∞”.

Unusual Figures

If your prescription contains similar figures as follows, don't worry! These figures are not needed for prescription lenses.

PRESCRIPTION REFERENCES

In UK, there are four major types of prescriptions: NHS, BOOTS, VISION EXPRESS and SPECSAVERS. If you find it's hard to fill the prescription table on our website according to the prescription you currently own, you can check the following examples accordingly for help.

Handwritten NHS Prescription

The prescription table at Ozeal Glasses should be entered as follows:

As for the values of Prism, Base and INT ADD, you can leave them in Additional Note Box on the page where you enter your prescription.

Printed NHS Prescription

The prescription table at Ozeal Glasses should be entered as follows:

There's quite a difference between handwritten NHS prescription and printed prescription. On the handwritten NHS prescription, the value of ADD can be entered on our prescription table directly; while on the printed NHS prescription, there's no ADD. The value of ADD you can provide us should be the value of Near SPH minus the value of Distance SPH.

Boots Prescription

The prescription table at Ozeal Glasses should be entered as follows:

On Boots Prescription, the value of Reading Addition is the value we need for ADD.

Specsavers Prescription

The prescription table at Ozeal Glasses should be entered as follows:

On this prescription, the powers for both eyes are currently not available on our website. So while you are entering your prescription, leave the Sphere column alone and leave a note to let us know.

Vision Express Prescription

The prescription table at Ozeal Glasses should be entered as follows:

DON'T HAVE A PD?

PD refers to the distance between the centres of your eye pupils. It is needed for your prescription glasses so as to make the distance between the optical centres of your glasses lenses the same as your PD. As for adults, it won't change. Once you know your PD, you do not need to measure it every time you buy prescription glasses.

On many prescriptions, PD is not included. Under this circumstance, if you want to buy prescription glasses online, we strongly recommend you ask for it from your optician who conducted the eye test for you.

Of course, if you don't want to bother yourself too much with a PD number, we can offer a simple solution to you: you can choose the average number 63mm for distance and average number 60mm for reading.

However, we have to point out that if you have a strong (SPH of +/- 4.00 and above) or a complex (bifocal and varifocal) prescription, we recommend you either ask for your PD from your optician or measure it on your own.

MEASURE PD ON YOUR OWN

  • Find someone for help, friend, partner, anyone is OK.
  • Make sure your friend or partner sits at roughly the same height as you do and face you.
  • Ask them to hold a millimeter ruler on the bridge of your nose, keep it straight.
  • Remind them to adjust the rule "0" until it is exactly in line with the centre of your left pupil.
  • Ask them to read the measurement between the left pupil and right pupil. (Remember to look ahead while they are reading the measurement).
  • Repeat it 3 to 4 times for accuracy.

RELATED POPULAR QUESTIONS

Will you have my prescription double-checked?

Yes, of course. However our customer service staff can only observe problems when there are obvious unreasonable numbers in your prescription. If you think it is necessary, you can send us the copy of your prescription and our customer service can verify your entered prescription for you.

COMPARISON QUALITY VS PRICE

Quality Guarantee

All the lenses from Ozeal Glasses are stringently tested before your ordered glasses are assembled, including subjecting the lenses to extreme heat, cold and humidity, to guarantee 100% durability.

In order to make sure our glasses are comfortable for all-day-wearing, we also apply technologies of anti-reflection, scratch-resistance, anti-static and water-repellence.

And to further ensure quality, Ozeal Glasses has implemented the ISO 9001 management system standard to ensure the same global improvement process (Plan Do Check Act) throughout the manufacturing process.

DON'T TAKE WRONG LENS TYPES

Ozeal Glasses provides three types of lenses: Single Vision Lenses, Bifocals and Varifocals. Single Vision Lenses can be further divided into distance, computer and reading lenses according to your actual vision problems.

Failing to choose the right lens type will gradually bring harms to your eyes. For any problems with picking the right lens type, you can either refer to our LENS GUIDE or contact us for professional tips.

Single Vision

Single vision lens has the same focal power throughout the lens. It is prescribed to correct only one field of vision, i.e. shortsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia.

Distance

You can choose single vision lenses for distance use if you only have problems with seeing clearly from a distance, such as watching movies, reading airport boards and presentation PPTs, etc.

Computer

You can choose single vision lenses for computer use if you have symptoms like headaches and double or blurred vision while working at computers (INT ADD is required on your prescription).

Reading

You can choose single vision lenses for reading if you have problems with seeing clearly at close-up objects, such as reading books, reports, documents, etc. (It more likely happens to people aged 40 and over)

Bifocal

Bifocals are designed for people who have problems with seeing clearly from both close-up and distance. Suppose you are a teacher; you cannot see clearly your lecture notes and the faces of your students sitting in the back rows, in this case, you may need to think about buying yourself a pair of bifocal glasses.

However you had better inquire your optician about whether you need bifocals and if you do need them, remember to provide us with NEAR ADD or INT ADD other than numbers indicating the power of lenses you need.

Freeform Varifocal

Technological Breakthrough

Freeform Varifocal glasses stand for one of the most significant technological improvements in the eyewear industry. We all know that varifocal glasses are designed to correct our visions at distance, arm-length and also close-up. However, they may cause size change of objects and even dizziness after long time of wearing.

Based on the major purpose of traditional varifocal lenses, Freeform Varifocal glasses are designed with the progressive surface on the inside lenses due to the applying of three dimension technology.

How Do Freeform Varifocals Benefit?

The technological breakthrough has brought obvious benefits to its wearers.

  • Wider Vision Field at All Distance
Regular varifocal lenses only allow 1/3 clear vision field while Freeform Varifocals enlarge it to more than 1/2.
  • No Image Jump
The progressive dioptre on the lens surface is precisely calculated and designed, fitting your eyes to the largest extent.
  • Easier Adaption
Freeform varifocals allow you to see objects at a more constant size, which reduces your feeling of dizziness when you look far then down to read.
  • Smooth Transition
The polishing of the inner surface of Freeform Varifocal lenses is processed with flexible moulds. It guarantees a perfect combination between the lenses and your prescription.
  • No Visible Line
This is the basic difference between Freeform Varifocals and traditional varifocals. It allows great vision experience and adds a lot to your cosmetic attractiveness too.
Competitive Price

According to surveys, Freeform Varifocals lenses are sold at £180.00 on average in common high street stores and £240.00 for some high end brands. However at Ozeal Glasses, they only come at £60.00, saving you at least 80%.

THICKNESS IS THE KEY

Ozeal Glasses provides high index lenses made of four types of materials: Mid-High Index 1.56, High Index 1.60, Super High Index 1.67 and Ultra High Index 1.74. The larger the number is, the thinner the lens will be.

Mid-High Index 1.56

22% thinner
Inherent UV protection function
Good for those with a SPH up to +/- 2.00

High Index 1.60

30% thinner

Super High Index 1.67

Ultra High Index 1.74

ADD SOME TINTS IF YOU NEED

Prescription glasses can also be tinted, for a stylish looking and most importantly, for the better performance of your glasses. OZEAL Glasses provides three types of lens tints, Transitions, Dark Sunglasses tint and Light Sunglasses tint, and you can choose any one of them based on your actual needs and personal likes.

Transitions

Available in gray and brown, Transitions enjoys a high popularity among eyeglasses wearers when it comes to tint. It can:

  • Automatically change from clear to dark outdoors
  • React primarily to UV light, may not be able to adapt in the car
  • Stay clear while indoors or at night
  • Fully block UV rays from the sun
  • Add to cosmetic attractiveness

Recommend if you stay out a lot, or have to switch between indoor and outdoor activities frequently.

Dark Sunglasses Tint

If you seek both style and performance from tint, choose our Dark Sunglasses tint (UV400 included). With the 100% protection from Sun's UV rays, you have nothing to worry about when you are hanging out, such as taking a sun bath on the beach.

Six color options are available.

Light Sunglasses Tint
